The long-standing rivals lock horns at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Monday evening, battling to be crowned winners of a tournament that has captured the imagination in the United States.
Brendan Rodgers' charges have expertly navigated past European contenders OIympiacos, Manchester City and AC Milan to reach the showpiece meeting with their domestic rivals.
Aside from the obvious excitement of a major pre-season tie and the chance to claim early success, Johnson believes the level of opponents this summer shall prove a benefit down the line.
He told LFCTour.com: "When you're at a top club, you need to be playing the best teams because they're the ones you're going to be fighting with throughout the season. It has been a fantastic pre-season.
"It will be great for the fans and we're certainly looking forward to it. They're a massive club as well so I'm sure the fans will turn up and make it a good night.
"Although it's pre-season and the main thing is to get fit, we've started the way we finished last season. That has pretty much been the philosophy for the whole time.
"We're playing Champions League sides in every game, so it's brilliant for keeping your level where it needs to be and keeping fitness levels high. It's looking good."
A number of tickets remain available to attend the fixture in Florida, while those unable to make the stadium can watch from the comfort of their seat with live coverage on LFCTV GO.
The Reds have received overwhelming support as they have travelled from Boston to Chicago, New York to Charlotte and finally Miami - not that Johnson has been at all surprised.
"It doesn't surprise me; any part of the world you go to, there are Liverpool fans," the defender, who arrived at Anfield in 2009, added.
"The welcomes we've had - even loads of people outside when we're getting off buses in the early hours of the morning - have been great."
