Brendan Rodgers takes his players to Brondby this evening for the opening friendly of the Reds' preparations for the 2014-15 campaign, which can be watched live online by subscribers.
From Denmark, the team meet Preston North End on Saturday before departing to the United States for their summer tour and eventually concluding pre-season at home to Borussia Dortmund.
But Skrtel believes Liverpool can hit the ground running and generate a helpful mentality within the group if they perform strongly at the Brondby Stadion.
He told LFCTour.com: "The first games are in front of us and we're looking forward to them.
"When you start pre-season with a good result, the mood and atmosphere is much better. We'll try to get a good result for a good atmosphere in the team.
"Everybody likes to play games and especially when you're eight or nine days into training, double sessions every day. It's very hard.
"It's very hard because it's pre-season and we're doing a lot of running, but we know we need that and we will need that in the season. We're trying to work hard and get some fitness."
Allowing himself a brief moment to anticipate exciting match-ups against AS Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City and AC Milan in America, Skrtel revealed he cannot wait.
"It will be very interesting because we'll play against big teams in great stadiums," the No.37 added. "It's going to be a good experience and we're definitely looking forward to that."
